EcuadorMap

EcuadorMap – a GIS database for Ecuador.

EcuadorMap is a GIS data set, available in ArcGIS or MapInfo format, that assembles and displays information pertaining to the geology, metallic mineral resources and land status of Ecuador.

EcuadorMap modules include Geography, Geology, TS Units, Prospects, and Land Status. Supplementary data sets are available for stream sediment geochemistry and radiometic dates.

For a detailed description of the data sets and for pricing information, click on: Ecuador Readme or contact RdC.

The Geography module includes shaded relief, bathymetry and digital elevation models (DEM) along with major infrastructure (towns, cities, highways, political boundaries).

The Geology module provides an up-to-date geologic map (published in 2017) in vector format. It includes the Geography module and is suitable for those who are interested only in the published geology of Ecuador.

The TS Units module, which is built on and includes the Geology and Geography modules, provides a tectono-stratigraphic interpretation based on published references. TS Units provides the base for a metallogenic map of Ecuador.

The Prospect module, which includes the Geography, Geology, TS Units and Radiometric Dates modules, plots 1000 known metallic mineral mines and prospects. Each mineral occurrence is linked to current information on past production, reserves and resources and references to the literature. The Prospect module can be used to focus on acquistions, assess prospectivity, and train artificial intelligence software.

The Land Status module, which includes Geography, locates over 8600 metallic mineral concessions (attributed with ownership and contract date) and plots the location of national parks, forest reserves and other areas of restricted mineral entry.

References provides a copy, in pdf format, of publications used to compile the EcuadorMap database.

Plots provides up-to-date metallogenic and land status maps as high resolution tiff images

The Prospect module can be used to:

  • Review resource and production information for individual mineral occurrences.
  • Find references to the literature with more information on specific properties.
  • Evaluate prospectivity by using the distribution of the tectono-stratigraphic terrane that hosts a given deposit type.
  • Answer specific queries, e.g. “Locate and identify all deposits with over 500,000 ounces gold.”
  • Select properties for evaluation and possible acquisition.
  • Design exploration programs to focus on a particular tectono-stratigraphic unit.
  • Click on Prospect DEMO to see how the Prospect module works.

The Land Status module can be used to;

  • Identify areas already covered by exploration or extraction concessions.
  • Identify the owner of individual concessions, the contract date and the expiration date.
  • Check for nearby parks, national forests, or other areas of restricted mineral entry.
  • Answer specific queries such as “Locate all concessions held by Minera Occidente, S.A.”
  • Click on Land Status DEMO to see how the land status module works.
