GIS Databases for Central America, the Greater Antilles, Mexico and Colombia

Recursos del Caribe offers CentralAmericaMap, GreaterAntillesMap, MexicoMap and ColombiaMap for sale in either MapInfo or in ArcGIS format.

Download the readme files Greater Antilles readme, Central America readme, Colombia readme or Mexico readme for a detailed database description and for pricing information.

Each database consists of modules for Geography (infrastructure, digital elevation models and shaded relief), Geology (vector files for a geologic map compiled from published sources), TS Units (a tectono-stratigraphic interpretation of the geologic map), Radiometric Dates (published radiometric dates), Prospects (metallic mineral mines and prospects), Land Status (national parks, protected areas and metallic mineral concessions), Plots (a tiff image of the metallogenic map) and References (publications used to compile the database).

These databases are designed for mining and exploration companies and for government and private agencies interested in the geology of the Caribbean region.

Multielement Geochemical Databases

Multielement data, with an emphasis on stream sediment samples, is available in vector format for Mexico, Panama and Colombia. Sample locations and geochemical analyses are being captured in vector format and new countries are being added steadily.

These multielement geochemical databases are designed to be used with ColombiaMap, MexicoMap, GreaterAntillesMap and CentralAmericaMap but they are offered separately.

Recursos del Caribe also offers geophysical surveys and has assembled applicable mining and environmental laws for each country in the region.

For a list and brief description of multielement geochemical surveys for the region, download the Stream Sediment Survey Index. For a detailed description of the available multielement geochemical databases, click on Panama Gchem database or Mexico GChem database on Colombia Gchem database.

CentralAmericaMap: a GIS Database for Central America
Geography, Geology, TS Units (tectono-stratigraphy), Prospects, Radiometric Dates, References and Land Status for all of Central America (Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama), available in ArcGIS or MapInfo format. Stream sediment survey data and geophysical survey data offered separately.

GreaterAntillesMap: a GIS database for the Greater Antilles Geography, Geology, TS Units (tectono-stratigraphy), Prospects, Radiometric Dates, References and Land Status for all of the Greater Antilles (including the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands), available in ArcGIS or MapInfo format. Geochemical survey data and geophysical survey data offered separately.
ColombiaMap:
a GIS database for Colombia
Geography, Geology, TS Units (tectono-stratigraphy), Prospects, Radiometric Dates, References and Land Status for Colombia, available in ArcGIS or MapInfo format. Geochemical survey data and geophysical survey data offered separately.
MexicoMap: a GIS Database for Mexico

The modules for each of these GIS databases are also available individually, for instance:

 Mexico readme
Geology:
A mosaic of the most up-to-date, published geologic maps (for each country), modified to reflect recent publications, and accompanied by  legends for rock units and structure.  Includes a Geography module containing shaded relief, bathymetry, political boundaries, infrastructure, UTM grids and a topographic map index.
see the readme files for Central America, Mexico, the Greater Antilles or
TS Units:
A tectono-stratigraphic interpretation based on published references and created by coloring polygons from the published geologic maps according to their geologic setting (e.g. Early Cretaceous tholeiitic intraoceanic arc) rather than their lithology (e.g. Early Cretaceous basalt). Includes the Topography and Geology modules described above.
see the readme files for Central America, Mexico, the Greater Antilles or
Prospects:
Mines and metallic mineral occurrences, each attributed with name, location, ownership, deposit type, commodity, resource, reserve, status, gross contained metal value, and references to the literature.

Includes the Topography, Geology and TS Units modules, described above.

see the readme files for Central America, Mexico, the Greater Antilles or
Land Status: Areas of restricted mineral entry including national parks, forest reserves, indian reservations, national monuments, etc. along with mineral reserve areas as established by local governments.

Plus, metallic mineral concessions gleaned from the official government database, each attributed with ownership, contract date, and expiration date.

Includes the Topography module, described above.

see the readme files for Central America, Mexico,
Radiometric Dates
A compilation of published radiometric dates attributed with sample number, location, host rock, radiometric date, uncertainty, dating method, material or mineral dated, and a literature reference.

Recursos del Caribe also offers multielement geochemical databases for a number of countries in the region.

The multielement geochemical databases are available in ArcGIS or in MapInfo format. They are not included with the CentralAmericaMap, GreaterAntillesMap, ColombiaMap and MexicoMap GIS databases, described above.

These databases focus on stream sediment samples.
Multielement Geochemical Survey Data for Mexico, Central America, the the Greater Antilles and Colombia Multi-element geochemical survey data, originally published by governments and international agencies (e.g. the United Nations), now captured and provided as vector files to facilitate display and interpretation.
